Federal regulations for the storage of pharmaceutical items, narcotics and other controlled substances mandate strict guidelines for physical storage beyond the security provided by standard duty wire partitions. However, the common misnomer is that a costly custom application is required to achieve this higher level of security. When properly installed, SpaceGuard 2000 versatile mesh partitions meet the US Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) requirements for physical security of Schedule III through V controlled substances as outlined in Title 21 CFR (Sections 1301.72-1301.76) through the implementation of primarily standard wire security cage components. SpaceGuard DEA and Pharmacy Cages are designed to meet the following criteria:
Security cages having walls of not less than No. 10 gauge steel fabric with openings of not more than two and one half inches across the square... placed no more than 10 feet with reinforcements every sixty inches.
SG2000 versatile mesh panels can be constructed with a variety of mesh fabrics that meet or exceed specification. Our standard 10-gauge woven wire in a 1-1/2" diamond mesh meets the specification, and we have also provided a variety of tighter 10-gauge mesh sizes or even our 3/4"-#9 expanded metal to satisfy particular customer requirements. All mesh types are welded securely into angle framing, welded at all joints, for added structural integrity. Panels do not exceed 10' in width or 60" in height, and have reinforcements welded at a minimum of every 60".
Security cage walls are to be mounted on steel posts, which are at least one inch in diameter and set in concrete or installed with lag bolts that are pinned or brazed.
Standard SG2000 wire partition posts are constructed from 2"x2", 14-gauge steel tube with 2"x7" base plates (or 4"x7" base plates on posts over 10' high) that are drilled to handle 3/8" lag bolts which can be pinned or brazed once installed.
Security cages having a ceilings constructed of the same materials noted above, or in the alternative, security cages shall be erected which reaches and is securely attached to the structural ceiling of the building.
SG2000 wall panels are also used as ceiling panels. The post-to-panel construction also affords the ability to erect partitions at extended heights to reach the structural ceiling.
Security cages equipped with doors constructed of the same materials noted above, that conforms to the requirements of 21 CFR 1301.72(b)(3)(ii).
SG2000 wire mesh doors can be manufactured with several self closing mechanisms including gravity self-closing, hydraulic closers, chain closers, and spring hinge options. Mortise cylinders, panic bar, and electronic access control locks such as magnetic locks in both swing and slide doors are also available.
Possibly the greatest benefit of offering these solutions for DEA cages in SG2000 versatile mesh partitions is that many of these requirements satisfy other high security enclosures such as Temporary Holding/Detention Cells, Vault and bonded storage for warehousing (including the secure storage of jewelry, blank credit cards, electronic, and other high value items), Armed Reserve center personnel cages for the military, and Evidence Storage Enclosures.
