Engineers at Alcoa were charged with the task of procuring area guarding for their Lafayette, IN aluminum fabrication facility. Specifically, they needed visually distinctive safety barriers that did not obscure the view of the guarded equipment. Alcoa worked with local representatives of SpaceGuard Products to provide a cost effective solution. The result was a safety barrier coupling SpaceGuard’s SG2000 versatile mesh enclosures and a newly developed bolt-on component, VAS (Visual Alert Splice) kits.
Constructed from 1” x 1 ⅝” steel channel, VAS kits easily attach to all SpaceGuard area guarding and secure storage products making them an economical alternative to custom finishing an entire project application. As an independent component, retrofitting existing material is just as hassle free.
When asked how Alcoa felt about the final installation, Maintenance Supervisor, Marks Mays, responded, "The perimeter fencing is easy to install .. looks great .. and it’s maintenance free. Being an old maintenance guy you got to like that."
Our well-trained sales team is on-hand to provide more information about this new innovation in protecting your personnel, equipment and facilities. Contact us today for another solution made simple.

Board members of the upscale One Powers Street Condominiums in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY had a challenge. Their building was designed with many amenities, including a fitness room, but at the end of construction the owners had only one small space of 400 square feet available for shared storage. With 28 owners in the building, there clearly was not enough room to store - let alone separate - personal belongings in such a tight space.
One Power St Storage Area - Before
The One Powers St Board worked with local representatives of SpaceGuard Products to layout and optimize their storage space. The goal was equitable storage space for each owner. The result was an optimized space using SpaceGuard's stacked wire mesh lockers. Unlike solid units, SpaceGuard wire mesh condo lockers allow for unrestricted circulation of light, air and fire suppression systems which proves to be a challenge in restricted space.
SpaceGuard double tier locker doors are a pre-fabricated panel with an upper and lower door welded to the frame. The upper and lower tenant locker units are then separated by a full depth shelf, in this case constructed of sheet metal, to fully divide the contents of each unit. Instead of 215 square feet of storage, the second tier doubled the secured storage space to 430 square feet of total area.
One Power St Storage Area - After
When asked how the owners felt about the final installation, Board President Juan E. responded, "They love it. (It) offers so much more space than before."
Contact SpaceGuard Products today to turn even the smallest amount of space into a secure storage area for your Cooperative or Apartment building. The affordable yet quality apartment lockers also make a profitable investment for Property Managers who rent out the space to their tenants.

Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA) announces the formation of the Protective Guarding Manufacturers Association (ProGMA). ProGMA will join the 18 other Industry Groups operating under the umbrella of MHIA. ProGMA members are the Industry’s leading suppliers of fixed protective guarding products designed to protect personnel, equipment, and inventory in industrial facilities.
Protective Guarding items range from fixed objects installed around articulating equipment, machinery, or material storage areas such as safety fence, netting, guard rail, and bollards to specialized switches designed to stop machine operation as well as safeguarding through visual or auditory aids. They are used in manufacturing, distribution and other industrial facilities to protect personnel, equipment, and inventory from workplace hazards.
ProGMA will work to enhance workplace safety by increasing awareness and developing standards for design and performance of protective guarding products. “ProGMA will provide end users with easy access to leading manufacturers of protective guarding products helping them find effective solutions for their operations,” says Ray Niemeyer, Educational Services Director and ProGMA Managing Executive.
According to ProGMA Chairman, Eddie Murphy of SpaceGuard Products, Inc., "the positioning of the protective guarding industry as an Industry Group within MHIA presents substantial benefit to MHIA and ProGMA members."

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA)
recently released agency data on the most common types of safety infractions in
2010 that can lead to workplace injuries and fatalities. Listed among the top ten infractions was fall
protection and machine guarding. SpaceGuard offers an array of wire partitioning
and security guarding solutions to eliminate future infractions.
RailGuard
mezzanine handrail safety systems are an easy installed alternative to
traditional mezzanine hand railing.
Panels, constructed with SpaceGuard’s triple crimped woven wire securely
welded in an angle frame, and kick plates prevent potentially costly accidents
from falling objects. Posts, constructed
from 2” X 2” steel tube, raise 45” above the deck. Posts are provided with both top mount and
side mount installation to optimize the space of your mezzanine or catwalk. RailGuard safety systems meet OSHA
requirements of 200 lbs load applied at any point / direction. Tie off may still be required, but RailGuard
ultimately aids in the prevention of falls or items dropping from overhead.
SpaceGuard 2000 versatile mesh enclosures, as the
name implies, are engineered for versatility and customization as the name
suggests. SG2000 partitions are
available in woven wire, welded wire, expanded metal, sheet metal, and even
lexan for machine and robotic guarding. SG2000 robotic guarding is available in
a variety of colors in our factory applied powder coat including yellow for
posts and the tops of panels, and black for improved visibility of the
machinery through the mesh. SG2000 can also be configured for full height barriers atop mezzanines to provide even additional protection above RailGuard.
Workplace
safety violations put workers at risk and can be costly with fines and possible
loss time. Don’t let another potential
violation cost you, call one of SpaceGuard’s trained sales representatives to
help design a secure, safe solution to meet your OSHA or other safety requirements.

Adjustability is typically not
associated with the phrases “cost-effective”, “value added” and “efficient”,
but we at SpaceGuard are disproving that notion with our new adjustable shelf kit,
now available in SpaceGuard Wire Mesh Lockers and several security cage lines.
Threaded clip-in nuts are inserted onto
the shelf framing and bolt directly through with square washers, thus sandwiching
the wire. This allows for shelf
placement of your secure storage unit(s) to be determined in the field and even
allows the shelves to be changed after installation. Previously, wire mesh locker shelves were
bolted through steel flats permanently welded in the side wall framing,
providing no adjustability of the shelf. The only adjustability achieved was by welding
multiple steel flats into the panel frame which was not cost-effective and
limited the placement of shelves.
Through this new innovation, internal
shelving can now be installed regardless of mesh pattern in our SpaceGuard 2000
versatile mesh partitions and 2180 welded wire partitions as well as SpaceGuard
Tenant Storage and Portable Locker units. Adjacent wire mesh partition units
can now share side walls without affecting the placement of the shelves providing
a consistent look and strengthened storage system. The ability to create locker
units from our wire enclosure lines expands the available locking options: such
as mortise cylinder locks, ADA compliant locks and electronic access control
lock options.
Our well-trained sales team is
on-hand to provide more information about this new breakthrough in optimizing
your storage space. Contact us today for
another storage solution made simple.

Statistics on industrial accidents involving the movement and storage of materials are overwhelming. OSHA estimates nearly 100,000 injuries annually involving powered industrial trucks and over 100,000 more involving falling objects. Considering the fact that those injuries add up to several hundred thousand hours of lost workday cases, hundreds of fatal injuries, and millions of dollars in damaged product annually, it has never been more important to ensure that items are safely secured where the two hazards meet: on and around industrial storage systems.
SpaceGuard Products does its part by offering the heaviest duty pallet rack protection systems available on the market. All rack safety panels are constructed from our unrivaled 6-gauge welded wire mesh welded into a 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" x 1/8" steel angle frame to provide essential protection of personnel and products.
Unlike alternatives such as netting, our wire mesh pallet rack backing offers a durable solution that is easily installed and maintained with infrequent replacement. Installation is available in two options: 1) fixed offset brackets for teardrop style uprights, and 2) our innovative adjustable bracket that accommodate offsets between 2" and 12" on most upright styles measuring up to 3-1/2" in width and depth.
Our fixed rack safety offsets are 3" x 1/8" thick steel formed at two ends for additional strength and mount easily to slotted holes punch in the face of the panels as well as the teardrop pattern of the pallet rack. Fixed brackets are available in a range of offsets from flush up to 12". Our adjustable brackets use a tube arm securely supported to the upright with two U-bolts, and a 2" collar that slide along the arm to the desired or available offset within a flue or when backed up to an aisle - and can be cut down once fixed in place. Both bracket types can be shared between vertically stacked panels. Adjustable brackets afford the ability to share panel attachment between two adjacent bays off of the same collar. This efficient means of attachment is both cost-effective and ties an entire system together for added strength and stability.
The best part... SpaceGuard's heavy-duty wire mesh safety guards are available at competitive prices and in an array of panel sizes to accommodate various beam lengths.
Contact a salesperson today at 800-841-0680 to learn how wire mesh rack guards not only provide your customers much needed safety, but can add to the bottom line of an otherwise ordinary pallet rack sale.

Federal regulations for the storage of pharmaceutical items, narcotics and other controlled substances mandate strict guidelines for physical storage beyond the security provided by standard duty wire partitions. However, the common misnomer is that a costly custom application is required to achieve this higher level of security. When properly installed, SpaceGuard 2000 versatile mesh partitions meet the US Drug Enforcement Administration's (DEA) requirements for physical security of Schedule III through V controlled substances as outlined in Title 21 CFR (Sections 1301.72-1301.76) through the implementation of primarily standard wire security cage components. SpaceGuard DEA and Pharmacy Cages are designed to meet the following criteria:
Security cages having walls of not less than No. 10 gauge steel fabric with openings of not more than two and one half inches across the square... placed no more than 10 feet with reinforcements every sixty inches.
SG2000 versatile mesh panels can be constructed with a variety of mesh fabrics that meet or exceed specification. Our standard 10-gauge woven wire in a 1-1/2" diamond mesh meets the specification, and we have also provided a variety of tighter 10-gauge mesh sizes or even our 3/4"-#9 expanded metal to satisfy particular customer requirements. All mesh types are welded securely into angle framing, welded at all joints, for added structural integrity. Panels do not exceed 10' in width or 60" in height, and have reinforcements welded at a minimum of every 60".
Security cage walls are to be mounted on steel posts, which are at least one inch in diameter and set in concrete or installed with lag bolts that are pinned or brazed.
Standard SG2000 wire partition posts are constructed from 2"x2", 14-gauge steel tube with 2"x7" base plates (or 4"x7" base plates on posts over 10' high) that are drilled to handle 3/8" lag bolts which can be pinned or brazed once installed.
Security cages having a ceilings constructed of the same materials noted above, or in the alternative, security cages shall be erected which reaches and is securely attached to the structural ceiling of the building.
SG2000 wall panels are also used as ceiling panels. The post-to-panel construction also affords the ability to erect partitions at extended heights to reach the structural ceiling.
Security cages equipped with doors constructed of the same materials noted above, that conforms to the requirements of 21 CFR 1301.72(b)(3)(ii).
SG2000 wire mesh doors can be manufactured with several self closing mechanisms including gravity self-closing, hydraulic closers, chain closers, and spring hinge options. Mortise cylinders, panic bar, and electronic access control locks such as magnetic locks in both swing and slide doors are also available.
Possibly the greatest benefit of offering these solutions for DEA cages in SG2000 versatile mesh partitions is that many of these requirements satisfy other high security enclosures such as Temporary Holding/Detention Cells, Vault and bonded storage for warehousing (including the secure storage of jewelry, blank credit cards, electronic, and other high value items), Armed Reserve center personnel cages for the military, and Evidence Storage Enclosures. Just a few more secure storage solutions made simple by SpaceGuard Products. Contact us today to learn how we can assist in your next project.

Sure, SpaceGuard tenant storage lockers provide a number of benefits ranging from unrestricted circulation of light and air, storage with little to no interference with fire suppression systems, and the high quality fabrication and durable powder coat finish that our customers have come to appreciate. But with a wide array of storage options available, why do customers continue to choose SpaceGuard for condo and apartment storage projects across North America?
Apartment Property Managers prefer SpaceGuard because our wire mesh lockers require a reasonable initial investment that is quickly recuperated through monthly rents on units that they solely manage. Coop and Condo Board Members prefer SpaceGuard because our condo storage lockers are the highest quality construction at a competitive price for their owners. The bottom line is our wire mesh lockers are high quality, easy to install, and affordable.
Don't be fooled by some cheap price tag in a catalog that fails to mention that every part requires individual assembly prior to installation. Our products are prefabricated to size and fully framed. Installing a standard SpaceGuard locker can be as easy as standing 3 panels up, connecting through pre-punched holes for carriage bolt hardware provided, then anchoring to the ground/walls (also provided). Let SpaceGuard and our national network of preferred distributors visit your facility to lay out a competively priced, optimized storage plan today.
Before: Cluttered, unseparated space in the basement of a Brooklyn, NY apartment complex...
